Hi there, my name is Michael Pierson and I am a Nova Scotia–based production designer whose work spans film, television, and commercial media. With a career rooted in Canada’s East Coast production community, I have developed a reputation for crafting grounded, character-driven visual environments that support both independent storytelling and genre filmmaking.
With more than 30 credits across film and television, working in roles that include production designer, art director, and broader art department positions, my production design work includes films such as Sk+te’kmujue’katik/At the place of Ghosts (2026), There, There (2024), The Queen of My Dreams (2023), Kids vs. Aliens (2022), Queens of the Qing Dynasty (2022), Wildhood (2021), and Stage Mother (2020), as well as numerous short films and emerging projects in development. My television credits include The Trades and long-running involvement with the Trailer Park Boys franchise, where I contributed as an art director before moving into production design roles on later projects.
I have collaborated with a range of Canadian filmmakers, including Ashley McKenzie, Jason Eisener, and Fawzia Mirza, reflecting a strong connection to auteur-driven and regionally produced cinema. My work frequently balances naturalistic detail with stylized elements, evident in projects like Werewolf (2016), Spinster (2018), and Night Blooms (2021). In addition to narrative film and television, I has designed for commercial clients and branded content, demonstrating versatility across formats.
Known for my hands-on approach and deep familiarity with Atlantic Canadian locations, I pride myself in bringing a practical, resourceful sensibility to production design with a strong commitment to visually expressive storytelling grounded in place and character.
